FAQs
If you don’t get your question answered here, please do get in touch and we’ll be glad to help.
How do you keep your fees so low?
We work smartly: using modern communication and remote delivery to keep things efficient and cost-effective. Because we don’t carry the overheads of large offices, travel, or unnecessary expenses, we can focus on delivering expert ISO support — without passing extra costs on to you.
What is Certain® and what does it provide?
Certain® is software that helps you build and maintain an ISO-compliant management system—quality, environmental, health & safety, and information security—fast. It asks you simple, guided questions (with tooltips for clarity) and generates the policies, procedures, and registers you need for compliance.
Once your management system is created, Certain® also generates a series of system-driven actions to help you maintain compliance — such as conducting internal audits, holding management review meetings, and tracking progress through your continual improvement tracker. You’ll also be prompted to set annual organisational objectives and other improvements, ensuring your system remains active and aligned with ISO’s principles of continual improvement.
Important: Certain® does not issue a UKAS-accredited certificate. We help you create and maintain a compliant system. If you later choose to pursue UKAS-accredited certification with a certification body, your system will be ready to present. Certain® also offers optional consultancy services to support you through this process — from preparing for external audits to helping you interpret certification body feedback.
Who is Certain® for?
Any organisation that wants to demonstrate ISO compliance quickly and cost-effectively—without the disruption of on-site consultancy. Whilst Certain® is built with small and medium-sized businesses in mind, larger organisations also use Certain® successfully.
How does the process work?
You select the ISO standard(s) you need, answer straightforward questions (each with a tooltip), and the platform assembles your management system. Where registers are required—e.g., a business risk register, environmental aspects register, or legal registers—you either answer prompts to generate them automatically or start with sensible default entries and tailor them to your organisation.
How long does it take to create my ISO-compliant management system?
The system is designed to be completed within 24 hours by someone who knows the business and can access the right information. Actual time depends on your organisation’s complexity and readiness.
Once your management system has been created, our team will review it to verify that all questions have been completed and responses provided correctly before issuing your Certificate of Compliance.
How long does my certificate last?
Once your management system has been reviewed and approved, Certain® will issue your Certificate of Compliance (a platform-issued certificate/attestation).
Your Certificate of Compliance is valid for 13 months from the date of sign-up, not from the date of approval. This ensures your compliance cycle aligns consistently with your annual renewal period.
When is the best time to become ISO compliant?
Now. ISO is about continuous improvement—you don’t have to be “perfect” to start. Because Certain® is fast and lightweight, it’s smarter to begin early, especially if you plan to grow, enter new markets, win tenders, or strengthen compliance.
What documents or inputs will I need?
This varies by standard, but you’ll typically need items like an organisational chart, high-level process flows, and details of risks, legal obligations, and objectives. Our Template Library includes examples and templates to help you assemble anything you’re missing.
What benefits can ISO compliance bring?
• Quality (ISO 9001): Higher customer satisfaction and trust; consistent processes; cost and productivity gains; culture of continual improvement.
• Environment (ISO 14001): Better environmental performance and compliance; clearer view of environmental risks; potential cost savings; stronger reputation.
• Health & Safety (ISO 45001): Systematic OH&S risk management; fewer incidents and injuries; improved legal compliance; ongoing performance improvement.
• Information Security (ISO 27001): Structured controls, reduced security risk, stronger stakeholder confidence, and support for regulatory/contractual needs.
Why do this online—what are the advantages?
Massive time and cost savings, convenience, and accessibility. Our guided, no-nonsense process reduces friction and helps you demonstrate compliance sooner, which can improve competitiveness and customer confidence.
Can I speak to a human if I need help?
Absolutely. We’re a people-first business, and our ISO experts are available to support your specific needs.
Is your team qualified to provide this service?
Yes. Certain® is powered by Alpha Swanson Ltd — a team of ISO specialists with decades of combined experience, operating at the forefront of Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety, and Information Security support.
